The Breakdown

Overall Score

Jason Bateman reunites with the writer/director duo behind 2011’s Horrible Bosses in this comedy about friends whose murder mystery game night turns into a wacky, real life kidnapping. The story is ridiculously bonkers and some of the jokes are eye-rollingly corny, but there are enough genuine belly laughs and clever twists to make it worth the hour and 40 minutes. Rachel McAdams is hysterical as Bateman’s unknowingly badass, gun-toting wife but it is Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad) who is awesome as their socially-awkward, always in uniform, cop neighbor who oh so desperately and hilariously wants to be part of the fun. Stay for the credits. B-
